This was a really nice trip I took with my family: wife Terry, son Greg, daughter Kelly.  We had a fine time even though it did rain/hail in the afternoon.  We hid in the tent and came out 2 hours later to find the ground covered with hail.  Was cold enough that afternoon and evening that the hail was still around the next morning.  

Location was an area called wigwam park, accessable only by hiking, in Lost Creek Wilderness area in Pike Nat'l Forest in Colorado.  The wilderness area is a huge area that is restricted to unmotorized travel only, no cars, etc.  

I got up a 20 meter wire vertical and operated a little on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.  Made about a dozen qso's, including Japan and Argentina.  Not bad for 5 watts out.

Greg at the camp wondering why the hec we're not at home living in luxury!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Ran into a little hail storm in the afternoon.  Started out as rain.   We hid in the tent and napped for a couple hours.  When we came out we were surprised to find the ground covered with hail.  Was cold enough that a lot of it was still on the ground in the morning.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Finally we get to the ham radio part.  Here's the mfj9020 on the operating rock.  Got a little whiterock paddle with a built in tick keyer.  Antenna was a 20 meter ground plane vertical strung up in a tree.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Got my best operating in the following morning.   Made about a dozen qso's, including Japan and Argentina.  Not bad for 5 watts out.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Finally got some sun that morning and you can bet I moved the operating rock to be in the middle of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
