This was a really nice trip I took with my wife Terry on a Sunday/Monday.  We hiked along Payne Creek trail in Lost Creek Wilderness in Pike Nat'l Forest in Colorado.   The hike in was about five miles.  First 3.5 miles was a nice gentle climb.  The last 1.5 miles had an elevation gain of about 900 feet and was a long hike.  We camped in a grove of aspens at almost 10000 feet elevation.  Lost Creek Wilderness is an area accessible only by hiking, restricted to unmotorized travel only, no cars, etc.  

This was my first backpacking trip with a new Sierra transceiver.  I put up a fan dipole with elements for 20 & 40 meters.   I also had extensions so I can load it up on 15, 17 & 30 meters.  I  Seemed to have the best luck on 40 meters, both on Sunday evening and Monday morning.  Not a lot of QSO's but had some real nice rag chews, particularly with W0KPH, Jack , just 50-60 miles away in Boulder.  Also tried for a sked with WU0H in SD on Sunday nite but that was unsuccessful.

               This is the only creek we passed on the way in.                                                                                                             Its a beautiful trail.  Here, near the top of the pass, is the trail winding through a bunch                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              At the top of the pass, we found a large aspen grove and there we camped.  Here's a shot of some of the aspens.  These were peculiar in that they all had an identical bend in the middle.
